Frequently asked questions

A few useful answers about tuition, alternative provision and getting started.

Where should we start if we are not sure what our child needs?

Start with a conversation. Tell us your child's year group, what they enjoy and what feels difficult at the moment. For primary pupils, we offer a free assessment to help identify a useful starting point. For secondary pupils, a free KS3 or GCSE group taster offers a chance to experience a session. Staff will discuss the options and confirm a suitable arrangement before anything is booked.

Do you offer both individual tuition and small groups?

Yes. Beyond Education offers individual tuition, small-group sessions and Maths & English drop-ins. The best fit depends on the learner, the subject and the kind of support needed. A child may benefit from time working individually, from learning alongside others, or from a combination. We will explain the available options and current spaces when you enquire.

Can parents enquire about Alternative Provision directly?

Yes. Parents and carers are welcome to speak to us about their child and arrange an initial discussion. Where a school or local authority is involved, the placement, timetable and funding need to be agreed with the relevant people. An enquiry is the start of that conversation; it does not confirm a funded place. Schools and local authorities can also contact us directly to discuss a referral.

Which areas and schools do you support?

Our centre is in Urmston, Trafford, and we work with families, schools and local authorities across Manchester and the wider North West. We support pupils in state, grammar and independent education. For Trafford entrance exams, we discuss the particular school and intake year, including the five-school consortium and the separate admissions arrangements at Loreto Grammar and St Ambrose College.

How much does tuition cost, and can we use childcare payments?

Drop-in tuition subscriptions start from £54 per month. This is the starting price for the drop-in service, so individual tuition, groups and other programmes are discussed separately. Tax-Free Childcare and childcare vouchers are accepted where applicable. Staff can explain the current payment arrangements and help you check whether the intended sessions can be paid for through your scheme.

What is the difference between AP, EOTAS and home education?

Alternative Provision is education arranged outside a pupil's usual school setting. EOTAS means education otherwise than at school and describes a distinct arrangement that may be agreed for a child with an education, health and care plan. Elective home education is a family's decision to take responsibility for their child's education. These routes have different arrangements; an AP placement does not automatically mean an EOTAS package is agreed. We can discuss our provision and signpost you to the relevant school or local authority.

Can we visit the centre before deciding?

Please get in touch to arrange a visit. Meeting the team and seeing a learning space can help you and your child decide what feels right. Let us know about any access requirements or anything that would make the visit easier. We will confirm a suitable time, who you will meet and what to expect, so you do not have to work it out on arrival.
