Tuition, exams & Alternative Provision

Find the right support for your learner

Some learners need help with one difficult topic. Others need steady support or a different educational programme. Explore the options below, then speak to our team about the starting point and format that would suit your child.

Primary learning: build the foundations

Our primary tuition covers the skills children use across school, with support adapted to their academic starting point. You can ask about a particular concern or begin with a free assessment if you are unsure which route would help.

Phonics screening preparation

Practise sounds, blending and early reading with patient explanation. We help children apply what they know to unfamiliar words and discuss useful practice at home, with screening preparation forming part of their wider reading development.

Maths & English

Revisit foundations, work through gaps or provide a suitable next challenge. Individual, group and drop-in formats offer different balances of teaching and independent practice. The right choice depends on how your child currently learns.

SATs preparation

Support for Year 6 English and maths, combining understanding with familiarisation. We can help pupils interpret questions, explain their thinking and develop manageable preparation habits alongside the work they are doing at school.

Secondary support, from KS3 to A Levels

Secondary tuition can help a pupil address a difficult topic, strengthen earlier knowledge or prepare for important assessments. Tell us the subject, year group and qualification details so we can discuss the right specialist support and current availability.

KS3 and GCSE pupils can ask about a free group taster. It gives the learner an opportunity to experience a session and helps staff consider whether the group is suitable. Other formats and their fees are discussed separately.

A Level enquiries need the exact course and exam board. Our team supports selected subjects at this level, subject to specialist availability. We will confirm the proposed match before booking, rather than assume every subject can be offered at every time.

Trafford entrance exams and mocks

Entrance preparation begins with your child's intended intake year and the schools you are considering. Trafford's grammar-school routes have different requirements, and the consortium has announced changes for future entry years. Current school information should guide the plan.

Our entrance programme brings together assessment, focused English and maths learning, home practice and opportunities to sit mocks. The entrance booklet describes 55-minute groups with a 1:5 tutor-to-pupil ratio. That arrangement is specific to those groups and should not be assumed for every service.

Mock exams give children a chance to experience assessment conditions and provide information for future learning. They are separate from official admissions tests. Staff will confirm the suitable sitting, format, fee and availability when you enquire.

Alternative Provision: a personalised programme

Our AP supports primary and secondary learners who need a more personalised educational setting. Programmes can include academic work, creative activities, cooking, baking, wellbeing and life skills, with the proposed combination discussed around the young person's needs.

We welcome enquiries from parents, schools and local authorities across Trafford, Manchester and the wider North West. Suitability, attendance, funding and responsibilities need an individual conversation. A website enquiry starts that discussion; it does not confirm an authorised or funded placement.

If you are a professional referrer, identify your organisation and role and explain the broad purpose of the proposed provision. Please keep confidential pupil documents out of an initial message. Staff will explain how relevant information should be shared if the enquiry progresses.

One-to-one, groups or drop-ins?

Individual tuition gives a tutor time to focus on a particular learner. Taught groups offer structured support alongside other pupils at an appropriate academic level. Drop-ins, available for Years 2–9, are intended for independent practice with help available when needed.

These formats are not interchangeable. A child who struggles to begin work without an adult may need more direct teaching than a drop-in provides. Another may enjoy practising independently once the method has been explained. We can discuss that difference before you choose.

Fees depend on the service and format. Drop-in tuition subscriptions start from £54 per month; other arrangements are priced separately. Tax-Free Childcare and childcare vouchers are accepted where applicable. Ask the office to explain the proposed sessions, current payment terms and suitability for your scheme.

A few useful answers

Your questions, answered.

Where do we start if several services seem relevant?

Describe the main difficulty and the outcome you hope for. The team can help separate everyday curriculum support from exam preparation or AP needs. A primary assessment or secondary group taster may provide a useful starting point, depending on the learner.

Can a child move between formats?

Talk to the office if needs change. A different group or an individual session may be worth discussing, subject to suitability and available places. Session changes need to be arranged with staff rather than assumed from the timetable or agreed informally with another family.

Is AP the same as after-school tutoring?

No. AP involves an individually discussed educational programme and may require agreement with a school or local authority. After-school tuition supports particular learning needs through regular sessions. Explain the current educational arrangement so the team can direct your enquiry appropriately.

Can siblings attend different services?

You can enquire about each child's needs, but suitability and availability are considered individually. Let staff know any practical scheduling considerations. We cannot promise matching session times until the appropriate groups or tutors and their current spaces have been checked.

Do we book and pay immediately on the website?

No. The website starts an enquiry or requests an assessment or taster. Staff discuss the details and confirm arrangements. There is no online checkout or automatic promise of a place; the proposed support and payment terms should be clear before you commit.

Not sure which route to choose?

Tell us your child's stage and what you would like help with. We will talk through the relevant options.
