Jessica and Melissa: the sisters behind Beyond Education

Jessica Matthews founded Beyond Education in 2015 after tutoring since 2008. She is a qualified primary teacher and leads our Primary Alternative Provision.

Melissa Fagan joined as co-director in 2016. Together, Jessica and Melissa have grown Beyond Education from a local tutoring business into a wider education setting based in Urmston.

Their aim has always been to understand each learner and provide support that works for them.

Our team

Our teachers and tutors have experience across the primary curriculum and selected GCSE and A Level subjects. Our Alternative Provision team supports young people with a more individual approach to education.

We know that the right support can look different for every learner. Our team works with families to understand what their child needs and find an approach that suits them.

Take a look below to get to know the people who make up Beyond Education.

If you're not sure who to speak to, our office team can point you in the right direction.

Jessica, Primary Alternative Provision Lead

Jess — Primary AP Lead

Jess leads our primary Alternative Provision. She is also Beyond Education's founder and a qualified primary teacher. Speak to the office about the relevant contact for a primary placement enquiry.

Lauren, Secondary Alternative Provision and Designated Safeguarding Lead

Lauren — Secondary AP & safeguarding

Lauren leads our secondary Alternative Provision and is a Designated Safeguarding Lead. Families and professional referrers can ask the office to arrange a conversation about secondary AP or to raise a safeguarding concern.

Marie, Designated Safeguarding Lead

Marie — Safeguarding

Marie is a Designated Safeguarding Lead. If you need to raise a concern, contact the office and ask for a safeguarding lead. Do not include sensitive details in a general website message.

Anne-Marie, SEND Lead

Anne-Marie — SEND

Anne-Marie is a SEND Lead, supporting the discussion of individual learning needs. A placement discussion should explain the young person's individual support needs and identify how the relevant staff will be involved.

Helen, SEND Lead

Helen — SEND

Helen is a SEND Lead. The team can discuss who will contribute to a learner's programme and how information from families, schools and other professionals should inform that support.

Gemma, Alternative Provision Teacher

Gemma — AP teaching

Gemma teaches within our Alternative Provision team. Academic work and practical learning are planned around the learner, with the proposed programme and staff involvement discussed before a placement is agreed.

A few useful answers

Your questions, answered.

Can we request a particular tutor?

You can explain a preference and staff will discuss current availability. Bookings are with Beyond Education rather than a guaranteed named tutor. The proposed match also needs to take account of subject expertise, the learner's needs and the session format.

Who should we contact about an AP placement?

Start with the office and say whether the enquiry concerns a primary or secondary learner. The team can direct the conversation to the appropriate AP colleague. Provide broad information initially; detailed records should be shared through the route staff arrange.

How do we reach a safeguarding lead?

Contact the office by phone and ask for a Designated Safeguarding Lead. Lauren and Marie are our Designated Safeguarding Leads. The office can confirm the current available contact. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services.

Can we meet someone before sessions begin?

Ask the office about arranging a first visit or assessment. The team will explain who will be involved and what the visit is for. It is a useful opportunity to ask about the setting, the proposed support and anything that could help your child settle in.

Can schools request information about staff experience?

Yes. Explain the proposed provision and the information your commissioning process requires. The office can direct the request and confirm relevant current details. A general team introduction should not replace the specific checks required for an individual placement.

Let's introduce you to the right person

Tell the office what you are looking for and we will direct your enquiry to the appropriate part of the team.
