Finding the Right Support for Your Child

Not sure where your child needs help? Our free primary assessment and advice service is a great place to start.

One of our tutors will work with your child to understand their current ability, while giving you the opportunity to share any concerns or questions. We'll use this information to recommend suitable tuition, helping you feel confident about the next steps.

Reading, writing and numbers

Our primary support covers the foundations children use throughout school. The right route depends on the skills they need to develop and the purpose of the sessions. You can explore each area below, or let us help you decide at the assessment.

Maths & English

Work on the ideas behind the method: understanding numbers, making sense of a text and putting thoughts into sentences. Tuition can address gaps or provide an appropriate next challenge.

Phonics

Practise recognising sounds and blending them into words. We keep early reading approachable, with room to revisit familiar sounds before introducing something new.

SATs preparation

Build confidence in Year 6 English and maths through steady practice, explanations and familiarity with different question types. The child's understanding remains the starting point.

Finding a session that feels right

Some children benefit from the focus of individual tuition. Others enjoy working alongside pupils who are practising similar skills. Beyond Education offers both, and the assessment helps us consider the balance of teaching, independence and social confidence that could suit your child.

Primary groups are organised with academic level in mind. Our brochure describes shorter sessions for younger learners and longer sessions as children progress. Staff will explain the length and current timetable of the particular group they recommend, so you know what you are choosing.

For pupils who can work more independently, Maths and English drop-ins offer another way to practise. These are available from Year 2, but are not the best choice for every learner. A child who needs frequent explanation may benefit more from a taught group or individual session.

Keeping everyone in the picture

You know your child beyond their exercise book. Let us know if they are tired after school, worried about a particular topic or using a method their teacher has introduced. That information can help us make the session more useful and keep explanations consistent where possible.

Group pupils receive written feedback about their session. If you would like a fuller conversation, the office can arrange a short appointment with the tutor; the general booklet suggests doing this around every ten to twelve sessions. Individual sessions include a few minutes for questions at the end.

Home practice should have a clear purpose. That might mean reading a few pages together, rehearsing a number fact or revisiting a word that appeared in a lesson. Ask the tutor what would be helpful before adding more worksheets to an already busy week.

A familiar place to learn in Trafford

Our centre is on Broadway in Urmston, across numbers 171, 173 and 175. We work with local families whose children attend state, grammar and independent schools, as well as families exploring a different educational arrangement. The school your child attends does not decide which support will be right for them.

A first visit is a chance to meet us, ask practical questions and help your child picture coming to a session. Please arrange a time with the office rather than arriving during teaching. Share any access requirements or anything that would make the visit easier, and we will discuss the arrangements with you.

A few useful answers

Your questions, answered.

Does my child need to be behind at school?

No. Some children need to revisit foundations; others are ready to extend their learning. Explain what you hope tuition will help with. The assessment helps us recommend an appropriate level and avoids giving a child work that is either overwhelming or too familiar.

What should we bring to the free assessment?

Bring your questions and, if useful, a recent example of schoolwork. There is no need for your child to revise first. Tell us their year group and any practical needs when arranging the visit so the team can explain what to expect.

Are children grouped only by school year?

The timetable uses school years as a guide, but groups are organised around academic level. Staff recommend a suitable group after discussing your child and looking at their work. Please speak to us if the pace later feels too fast or too slow.

Will primary tuition include homework?

Homework is not normally set for general group sessions, although tutors may suggest useful practice. Individual tuition can include optional homework. Entrance-exam preparation has different expectations for regular work at home, which the team will explain before you choose that programme.

Can we try a drop-in instead?

Drop-ins are available for Years 2–9 and involve independent work with a tutor available to help. They are intended for practice rather than continuous individual teaching. Ask us to check suitability first, especially if your child currently needs a lot of help getting started.
